Great day at St Ives added by Nick

On Monday 30th of May, St Stythians band played at the St Ives Tea Treat for the Bible Christian Chapel. We started off marching around the streets, followed by a concert in the afternoon.
We all had a great day, as well as having a great video made of us by St Ives TV who have done a brilliant job of it.

A Rainy Show Day. added by Sam

For the first ever time, St Stythians Band had to leave the stage before the end of the day due to torrential weather conditions, but nonetheless had a great day at the show.
The band opened the show with a march and some hymn tunes, before taking to the eventually flooded bandstand for the morning. Unable to play in the afternoon, the band mustered again for the evening Showground concert, playing to a massive and appreciative crowd.
We would like to thank a selection of friends and former members of the band for assisting us during the day. Michael 'MJ' Jackson and Sam Johns from St Austell Band, Courtney and Sue Berryman from Lostwithiel Band, Tom Furse from Pendennis Brass and Heidi Worth from Hayle Band all sat in at various points during the day, with their assistance being much appreciated.

Solid Results at Bugle Contest added by Sam

St Stythians Band were pleased with their 2nd place in the 3rd section, and runners up spot out of all 14 bands of the day in the deportment section at Bugle contest. Clearly Euphonium player John's experience of playing in the Marines band, which he relayed to the ensemble with a drill the week before the event, paid dividends.
Due to absences, the band are indebted to several players who helped out on the day, and extend their gratitude to Glyn Thomas of Pendennis Band, along with Roger Gluyas and Liz Lane, both former members, for coming for their assistance. Thanks also to Alistair Rowe, who assisted the band on the march back. The band would like to extend their congratulations to the winning band of their section, St Breward, who were certainly worthy winners, and to Bugle Band for winning the deportment prize.

Band Mourns Loss of Cornet Player added by Sam

Ivor Young was found dead in his house on the morning of June 4th. Ivor played cornet with the band for almost 60 years, as well as tutoring younger members on Friday evenings. His friendly personality and good nature touched many people over the years, making him very popular in both St Stythians Band and the Cornish banding circuit. Throughout his long and eventful life Ivor served as a Royal Engineer in the army, as well as a RNLI Lifeboat Coxon. His sudden and unexpected passing has deeply upset every member of the band. Summer Season Opening Concert added by Sam

The band are kicking off their Summer Season on June 7th, at the Princess Pavilion Theatre, Falmouth, with a concert featuring the R.A.O.S.T. Singers (M.D. Alastair Taylor). Tickets can be purchased from the Pavilion Box Office (01326 211222), or from any band member, and are priced at £5 each.
The band is also eagerly preparing for the Bugle West of England Festival on June 20th, where they will enter the 3rd section. Several players will be missing on the day, with Solo Horn and Bb Bass players Viv and John Nicholas attending a wedding, and 1st Horn Sharron Richards on maternity leave. As such, Chris Reynolds has made the meteoric leap from 2nd horn to Solo Horn, and Helen Rowe has returned to the band after a medical hiatus on 2nd horn. The band have lined up some players to fill the remaining empty seats on the day.
